Spend with us, and we’ll donate to charities that support hard hit trades.

20 July 2020

By spending with us between July and September you’ll be helping charities that support the construction and trades sector. Never was this more necessary than now. So, between July 20th and September 11th, when you spend with us we’ll donate up to £20 to help those hard hit by family, health and external circumstances.

Our target is around £10,000. With your support, we can do it. You don’t even have to do anything differently; just continue buying from us and we’ll make a donation.

We know it’s been a hard time for many trades. It still is for some — and even without Covid many have other health and family factors that put them in need of some extra support. We want to do our bit to help. So, for every £250 you spend, we will donate £5 to one of four charities. The more you spend, the more we’ll donate.

You spend / We’ll donate

£250 = £5

£500 = £10

£750 = £15

£1000 = £20

Here’s some information about the four charities and why we’ve chosen to support them. We’ll be telling you more about them, and about how much we’ve donated, over the coming weeks.

The Rainy Day Trust

The Rainy Day Trust is working towards a time when all those who have worked in the home improvement and enhancement industry have the funds they need to live.

They work to provide financial and other assistance to those who have fallen on hard times. They support people who have worked in the manufacture, wholesale, retail & distribution of builders’ merchants, DIY, hardware, potteries and glass, housewares and garden centres. As well as professional tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters, electricians and so on —including their apprentices or trainees.

Mental Health UK

We recently wrote an article that touched on mental health in the construction and trades sectors. We know that between 2011 and 2015, construction workers accounted for up to 13.2 % of the total number of in-work suicides. And with more openness about mental health issues, it’s now understood that 1 in 4 people in the UK has experienced a mental health problem.

Mental Health UK is the only UK-wide mental health charity supporting people affected by mental health problems, including: friends, family and carers. They bring together over 40 years of expertise. By supporting them we hope to see improvements in the mental health of construction and trades people beginning to match up with the improvements our sector has seen in physical safety.

Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF)

APF is an organisation supporting families/patients and raising awareness around Pulmonary Fibrosis. Pulmonary Fibrosis is a debilitating lung condition that mainly effects men in the building or farming industries and can be caused by over-exposure to dust or similar substances.

This charity is particularly close to us as one of the DART team recently lost her father to the condition. They, and the whole DART team, are keen to raise awareness of it and its effects on the person affected and their wider family.

Variety, the Children’s Charity, exists to improve the lives of these children. They provide practical, tangible help that makes an immediate difference to children, young people, parents, siblings and teachers.

Here’s what you need to do…

It’s so easy. When your order is £250 or more, we will ask which charity you’d like us to donate to. If your order is placed online, there will be a button for you to click. If it’s placed by email, you’ll be asked in the email. And if you call us to place your order, you’ll be asked while you’re on the phone.

It couldn’t be more quick and easy, and you’ll be helping to make life that bit easier for so many.

Thank you, in advance, for your support.
