All You Need To Know About The 8% Cobalt Bi-Metal Holesaws

09 February 2022

Did you know that the DART Premium 8% Cobalt Holesaw outperforms other leading brands by up to 3 times? It has a proven track record of durability and performance.

What Makes It a Stunner In The Holesaw World?

8% Cobalt.

The 8% cobalt provides extreme heat resistance for long life. The cobalt pushes the heat away from the teeth meaning that they will last a lot longer than holesaws without cobalt. If the holesaw does not have cobalt, it can heat up very quickly in harder materials (e.g. metal) and blunt the teeth.

This is especially important when sawing through materials like stainless steel, which cannot dissipate its own heat. This means that the material will become extremely hot when drilling, and if it becomes too hot, it can toughen, making it impossible to cut (and very quickly blunt the teeth of the holesaw).

The high percentage of cobalt in a DART Premium Holesaw means that some of the heat created in the cut is dissipated through the holesaw allowing you to continue to cut through the stainless steel without it becoming too hot.

Cooling slots.

As well as having 8% cobalt in them, DART Premium Holesaws feature cooling slots. These help with heat distribution within the holesaw which also enhances the life of the holesaw.

Variable pitch teeth.

What is tooth pitch? Tooth pitch describes the number of teeth per inch (TPI).

There are two types of pitch for holesaws; variable and constant.

Constant pitch means all the teeth are the same distance apart and are all the saw size. Conversely, variable pitch means that they can vary in size and distance from each other.

A variable pitch holesaw will always give you a better cut as they do not jam when sawing and allow the holesaw to cut through different material substrates. The bigger teeth that are further away from each other are for cutting woods and plastics, the smaller teeth that are closer together are for cutting metals.

Constant pitch holesaws are much more likely to jam and slow the cut down.

So, you can rest easy knowing that the DART Premium 8% Cobalt Holesaws have a variable pitch tooth configuration!

Precision set teeth.

On a DART premium holesaw the teeth sit at slight angles to each other; they do not sit in a perfectly straight line. There is a good reason for this, and it’s not a manufacturing error!

The precision set teeth allows for aggressive material penetration and swarf clearance. If the holesaws were in a perfectly straight line, there would be no clearance for the body of the holesaw, causing the holesaw to jam.

A smooth, clean-cut hole.

To get the best hole, a holesaw needs both variable pitch and precision set teeth. DART Premium 8% Cobalt Holesaws will cut with ease though most material types giving you a precise, clean cut every time.

A gap in the teeth.

DART Premium 8% cobalt holesaws are purposely not welded right to the top of the teeth. This is to allow heat expansion in the holesaw. When metal heats up, it expands. If there was no gap in the teeth, it could cause the holesaw to crack and give a poor cutting experience.

A Multi-material Holesaw.

The DART Premium 8% Cobalt Holesaw can also cut through a wide range of materials – making it the ultimate multi-material holesaw that will cut through thin and thick gauge materials up to 38mm.

It is suitable for cutting, aluminium, metal, sheet metal, mild steel, steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, cast iron, hardwood, softwood, wood with nails, plastic, chipboard, mdf and plasterboard. And this list is not exhaustive. One thing to bear in mind is that once your holesaw has been used in plasterboard, it will not work as well in metals. This is due to the abrasive nature of plasterboard.

A large range of sizes.

As well as a quality product, you get the added bonus of being able to choose from a wide range of sizes. In fact, with 65 sizes from 14mm – 210mm, it’s the largest range in the industry.

Some of the most popular sizes of holesaws are 20, 25, 32, 51, 64, 70 and 102mm. Electricians use 20 and 25mm holesaws for installing back boxes and trucking sockets. They use 32mm holesaws for conduit for wiring, and sizes 51 and 64mm holesaws for down lights in ceilings. 70mm Holesaws are helpful for soffit vents and general builders use 102 and 100mm holesaws for waste and general use applications, to fit pipes, dust systems and ventilation grills etc.

The Pricing.

What’s more, DART Premium holesaws are not high priced, they are affordable and represent extreme value for money.

Best cutting practices.

To get the most out of your holesaw, different materials and different size holesaws need to be drilled at different speeds. That’s why all DART holesaws come with a comprehensive cutting chart. You can also find it here
