What Are Cordless Saw Blades?

Cordless saw blades are circular saw blades that are compatible with Cordless Circular Saws. In a nutshell, they are circular saw blades with a thin kerf and, therefore, support slimmer bodies.

Cordless saw blades are circular saw blades that are compatible with Cordless Circular Saws. In a nutshell, they are circular saw blades with a thin kerf and, therefore, support slimmer bodies.

Kerf is defined as the width of material that is removed by the cutting/sawing process. A thin kerf circular saw blade creates a narrower slot and removes less material.

The width (thickness) of the cut affects power consumption. The more material that is removed, the greater the level of resistance and friction, leading to an increase in power drain. A thin kerf blade will remove less material, creating less resistance and friction. This will increase efficiency and reduce power drain, which is important, especially when using a cordless saw.

Are Cordless Saw Blades Good?

Cordless saw blades are effective for what they are designed for, but they are only good if manufactured to a high standard!

In 1961, Black & Decker designed and manufactured the first cordless power drill. Eight years later, Makita introduced the first rechargeable power tool to the market. Since then, whilst the basics of the power tool haven’t changed, the power tool market has been driven to provide its users with lighter, safer, more powerful, and more convenient to use. And, it goes without saying that a lot of this time has been spent developing cordless machines.

Today, the cordless power tool market is expected to reach US$ 22billion by 2025.

With the development of cordless machines has come the development of cordless accessories, especially cordless (thin kerf) saw blades for circular saws. Many companies are investing in them, but this doesn’t mean that all manufacturers know how to make them!

A cordless saw blade also means that the body of the blade will be thinner than a blade that is more suited to a corded circular saw. If the blade is not made of high-quality steel and not hardened and tempered correctly, it can waiver and cause a poor-quality cut.

At DART, we have invested in our cordless range of circular saw blades. As a manufacturer of accessories for the construction industry professional, we pride ourselves in making sure the body of the blades are hardened and tempered correctly to maintain precision and trueness in the cut.

What Are The Limitations of Cordless Saw Blades?

Saw blades suitable for cordless circular saws (thin kerf blades) can present a limitation if they are used on a corded machine that they are not compatible with. If the saw blade is not within the respective minimum body/kerf thickness acceptable for a particular corded saw, there can be issues with clamping the blade, posing a safety risk. It can also cause the blade to wobble and create a poor-quality cut and finish.

How Do I Know If My Blade is Suitable for Cordless?

Manufacturers that are professionals at making Cordless blades will mark their blades if they are suitable, such as Bosch who mark their blades with a battery icon.

At DART, all cordless saw blades are clearly marked with the words CORDLESS and ULTRA-THIN KERF, making it easy for you to choose the correct professional blade every time.
